T (SETTING)

Definition: Setting that holds the camera shutter open until the shutter dial is turned or release is press the second time. This setting differs from " B" (Bulb) that is usually is a stand alone setting and never drains the battery power and thus ideal for really long time exposures.

T (TIME)

Definition: shutter speed setting used for timed exposures longer than the numbered settings. The shutter opens when the release is pressed and closes when it is pressed again. Now largely super ceded by B (Bulb).

T SETTING

T STOPS

Definition: more accurate measurement of light entering a lens than "f" numbers. Whereas "f" numbers represent the ratio between measured diameter and focal length, "t" stops are based on actual light transmission at different diameters.

T-GRAIN TECHNOLOGY

Definition: name for Kodaks film emulsion technology used in all Kodak APS films. Uniquely shaped grains that align better than conventional silver crystals absorb and transmitting light more effectively to produce sharper images.

TABLET (GRAPHICS TABLET)

Definition: An input device that uses a stylus or specialized mouse to write or draw on the tablet surface to communicate with the computer.

TACKING IRON

Definition: A small, electrically heated tool used to melt the adhesive in dry-mount tissue, attaching it partially to the back of the print and to the mounting surface. This keeps the print in place during the mounting procedure.

Definition: heated tool used to stick part of the dry-mounting tissue to a print and its mounting board.

TAGGED

Definition: A photoshop image containing an embedded profile.

TAKING LENS

Definition: The lens on a camera through which light passes to expose the film.

TANK

Definition: A container for developer or other processing chemicals into which film is placed for development.

Definition: Are containers for holding chemical solution for processing films.

TANNING DEVELOPMENT

Definition: type of developer used for processes that require a relief image, such as dye transfer.

TARGET

Definition: In the context of testing, the portion og the original to be scanned.

TELE (TELEPHOTO)

Definition: A lens that makes a subject appear larger on film than does a normal lens at the same camera-to-subject distance. A telephoto lens has a longer focal length and narrower field of view than a normal lens and have a shallower depth of field than wide angle lenses. But it can do isolation of subject and have a longer reach without going near to the subject. Life can be very difficult in sports and wildlife photography. Telephoto lens whose focal length is longer than the diagonal of the film frame; in 35mm photography, lenses longer than 50-5Bmm; also referred to as a "long" lens.

TELECONVERTER

Definition: optical system mounted between a camera body and the lens to increase the effective focal length of the lens.

Definition: A device that fits between a lens and camera body to increase (usually to double) the effective focal length of a lens and produce a magnified image.

TELEPHOTO EFFECT

Definition: A change in perspective caused by using a long focal length lens very far from all parts of a scene. Objects appear closer together than they really are.

TELEPHOTO LENS

Definition: A lens that makes a subject appear larger on film than does a normal lens at the same camera-to-subject distance. A telephoto lens has a longer focal length and narrower field of view than a normal lens.

Definition: compact lens construction which provides a long focal length with a short back focus.

Definition: This category has a focal length that is greater than 50mm for 35mm cameras and makes the subject seem closer.

Definition: A lens that includes a narrow view of the subject in the picture frame, making distant objects appear closer and magnified. In the 35mm format, lenses with a focal length of 85mm or longer are generally considered telephoto lenses and can stretch even as high as 1200mm.

TEMPERING BATH

Definition: large tank or deep tray filled with water maintained at the correct temperature for processing. Used to house tanks, drums or trays as well as containers of processing solutions.

TENTING

Definition: A way to light a highly reflective object. The object is surrounded with large sheets of paper or translucent material lighted so that the object reflects them and not the lamps, camera, and other items in the studio.

TERABYTE

Definition: Equivalent to exactly 1,099,511,627,776 bytes of information.
