QUALITY CONTROL

Definition: Techniques ensuring that high quality is maintained through various stages of a process. For example, quality control during image capture might include comparing the scanned image to the original.


QUANTIZATION

Definition: The artificial forcing of like gray levels to the same gray level as a result of limited tonal resolution in a scanner. Quantization is most often seen in the shadow portion of scanned images.


QUANTUM

Definition: smallest indivisible unit of radiant energy.



QUARTER TONES

Definition: Tones between shadow and midtones are known as 3/4 tones and those between highlight and midtones are known as 1/4 tones.



QUARTERPLATE

Definition: negative or print format measuring 3 ¼ x 4 ¼ inches. It's one quarter the size of a full plate (8 ½ x 6 ½ inches).


QUARTZ-IODINE LAMP

Definition: compact tungsten filament lamp designed to maintain its color temperature and light intensity throughout its working life.


QUEUE

Definition: The line of events within the computer or peripheral.
