TIME EXPOSURE

Definition: An exposure in which the shutter stays open for as long as the photographer keeps the shutter release depressed. Time exposures maybe necessary in dim light and are usually made using a cable release and with the camera mounted on a tripod.
Definition: A comparatively long exposure made in seconds or minutes. Photographer: Steve Krisel
Definition: general term for an exposure longer than can be set using the camera's fixed shutter speeds.
