DENSITY

Definition: The degree of opacity of a photographic film.

Definition: The relative amount of silver in various areas of film or paper after exposure or development therefore the darkness of a photographic print or the light-stopping ability of a negative or transparency.

Definition: The blackness of an area in a negative or print that determines the amount of light that will pass through it or reflect from it. Sometimes referred to as contrast.

Definition: amount of silver deposit produced by exposure and development. It is measured in terms of the logarithm of opacity, where opacity is the light stopping power of a medium.
