CHARACTERIZATION

Definition: The process of creating an ICC profile that describes the unique colour characteristics of a particular device such as a monitor, scanner, colour printer, and printing press. Press profiles may be based on standards such as SWOP. Resultant ICC profiles define the gamut of a device in the context of a device-independent colour space so that colours may be mapped to or from the device gamut.
