BUFFER

Definition: chemical substance used to maintain the alkalinity of a developing solution, particularly in the presence of bromine which is produced during development.

Definition: Part of the computer's memory used for temporary storage of information. This becomes necessary to compensate for differences in speed that different devices can transmit or receive data.

Definition: A special area set aside either in hardware or software for temporary storage. Usually, the bigger the buffer, the faster the computer can process other data.

Definition: Memory in the camera that stores digital photos before they are written to the memory card.
