EMULSION

Definition: light sensitive material which consists of a suspension of silver halides in gelatin.

Definition: The light-sensitive layer of film or paper. In black and white films the emulsion usually consists of very fine grains of silver halide suspended in gelatin, which blacken when exposed to light. The emulsion of color films contains molecules of dye in addition to the silver halide.

Definition: Micro-thin layers of gelatin on film in which light-sensitive ingredients are suspended; triggered by light to create a chemical reaction resulting in a photographic image.
